Giants of 19th Century Pianism: Tyler Hay in recital

Tyler Hay is one of the most distinctive British pianists of his generation and a champion of neglected repertoire. Winner of the Royal Overseas League and Liszt Society International competitions, the RNCM Gold Medal and the 2022 Dudley International Piano Competition, he has performed at Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall and records for Piano Classics.

His programme rescues the forgotten masterpieces of the nineteenth century, with Chopin deliberately left out: Czerny, Field, Henselt, Alkan, Thalberg, Tausig, Rubinstein and Liszt. He promises “a huge eye opener (or ear opener).” CDs will be available on the day.

The afternoon also marks an ending. In 1993, days after her husband Peter’s death, Philippa Gould set out to raise £54,000 for a concert grand piano for this area. She succeeded, and the Peter Gould Music Trust she founded went on to bring more than 175 concerts to west Wales, at Rhosygilwen and at Theatr Mwldan, among other venues. The Trust now closes, and the proceeds from the sale of that piano will endow the Philippa and Peter Gould Music Bursary for young musicians across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Donations on the day will go directly to it.
