The Lampeter Chamber Orchestra is set to present an exciting evening of classical music, featuring Dyfed Young Musicians winner Raphael James as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat major, K. 595. The concert promises to be a highlight of the autumn music calendar at Rhosygilwen, bringing together local musical talent.
Mozart’s final piano concerto is a work of luminous beauty and gentle introspection, often celebrated for its lyrical melodies and graceful structure. Written in the final year of Mozart’s life, the concerto strikes a delicate balance between elegance and emotional depth. It is ideally suited to the expressive playing of Raphael James, whose performances have been praised for their clarity, sensitivity, and poetic interpretation.
The Lampeter Chamber Orchestra will accompany James in this much-anticipated collaboration. Known in the community for their enthusiastic performances, the orchestra will bring alive Mozart’s subtle orchestral writing in a work that often feels more like chamber music than a grand concerto.
This concert will offer audiences a chance to hear one of Mozart’s most refined and personal works performed in an intimate setting such as Rhosygilwen, with a soloist whose artistry continues to draw acclaim. Music lovers in Dyfed and beyond can look forward to an evening of grace, charm, and inspired musicianship. Proceeds from the evening will go to support a Ukrainian charity.
The Lampeter Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by David Russel Hulme, the former Director of Music at Aberystwyth University. Dr. Hulme has conducted distinguished orchestras internationally, including as a regular guest conductor of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted the Lampeter Chamber Orchestra in many of their recent concerts, held to raise funds for Zaporozhye Symphony Orchestra musicians who have been injured or whose homes have been damaged by Russian attacks. He is also a major authority on the music of Arthur Sullivan and Edward German, and is a recipient of the 2012 Glyndŵr Award for his Outstanding Contribution to the Arts in Wales.
