Côr Teifi is a local community choir who have regularly performed at Rhosygilwen over the years. Henry Ward has been working with tthem for over a decade and their principal piece in their Spring Concert on March 7th will be Requiem for the Living by the American composer Dan Forrest, The impressive and eloquent work reflects the current human predicament “bounden in a bond,” in music that is both passionate and consoling. It also vents sardonic anger at human vanity and the damage we have inflicted on our natural environment.
In addition, two recent Côr Teifi commissions will be heard in their orchestral versions
  • The Song of the Teifi by Rosalind Powell, an evocative and playful depiction of emotions stirred by walking along the banks of our much loved river.
  • A Backward Spring by Richard Morris, a compact and powerful setting of Thomas Hardy’s poem (Will there be another glorious spring).

The orchestra will  play:-

  •  Arvo Part’s iconic Cantus in Memorium Benjamin Britten, an early example of his tintinabulistic style and use of medieval compositional techniques
  • An extraordinary and impressive Fuge in A minor by Johannes Brahms, a masterful display of contrapuntal skill and chromatic colour
  •  Edward Elgar’s rarely heard Sospiri, a brief personal lament for the many lovely and wonderful things we have lost . (Rarely com’st thou spirit of delight)
Côr Teifi will be joined by many friends, including David Gregory who will lead the orchestra. Henry Ward is the artistic director and will conduct the performances.
