Following their hugely successful concert FOR A TROUBLED WORLD in March COR TEIFI will return to the Oak Hall at RHOSYGILWEN on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5th.  This late summer concert will feature some distinguished soloists-

ANDREA KWADE (soprano) and ANNEST DAVIES (harp), and once again an orchestra of the best players from our three counties and beyond.

Cor Teifi will sing some 16th century French madrigals, songs of love – lost and found, complemented by Couperin’s celebrated LES BARRICADES MYSTERIEUSES played by RICHARD DUNSTER-STIGERMANS on a two-manual harpsichord.  The FRENCH CONNECTION, very much alive in St.Dogmaels, continues with DEBUSSY’s evocative DANSES for HARP and STRINGS.

The world of BAROQUE MUSIC is further explored with AIRS,CHORUSES and DANCES from PURCELL’s extravagant entertainment THE FAIRY QUEEN, loosely based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, including the famous MASQUE OF THE SEASONS.

Changeable and diverse WEATHER also inspires three pieces written for Cor Teifi :

WELCOME, SUMMER      a setting of Chaucer’s poem by their Musical Director Henry Ward, invoking the soft sun, the singing of birds, and St.Valentine.

NIGHT-TIME IN MID-FALL    another Hardy setting by Richard Morris with its stormy nights, swollen streams, migrating eels and witches abroad.

WHO HAS SEEN THE WIND?   by Alun Rhys Williams, a delightful setting of Christina Rossetti’s poem.

The concert opens with Purcell’s overture to THE TEMPEST,  another Shakespearean adaptation.

Thus the natural world courses and blows through this richly textured programme – a summer splash to enjoy in all its variety and to remember.
