Multi award winning musicians Angharad Jenkins (violin/voice) and Patrick Rimes (violin/voice/piano/pipes) have been members of the celebrated Welsh folk group Calan for over a decade. As a duo they take their love and knowledge of Welsh folk music to new levels of intimacy, with vibrant playing and beautiful vocal harmonies.

Swansea based Angharad began learning the violin at the age of six through the Suzuki method, and continued with her classical training (with Andrew Griffiths) until the age of 16, graduating with a first class honours from Oxford Brookes University in 2008. As a composer and songwriter she is currently working on her first solo album, and also plays as part of the duo DnA with her Mother, harpist Delyth Jenkins, their debut album ‘Adnabod’ was shortlisted for the 2014 Welsh Album of the year.

Born and raised in Bethesda, North Wales, Patrick’s style is firmly rooted in the distinctive fiddle tradition of that area, but he enjoys drawing on a wide variety of other influences too, from orchestral music to jazz and bebop. After starting to learn the fiddle aged 7, Patrick was quickly drawn into the thriving scene of traditional music sessions and workshops in Bangor, alongside his instrumental studies with ‘classical’ teachers. He was twice named junior fiddle champion of Wales, and remains the only person to have won the coveted ‘blue ribbon’ award at Anglesey Eisteddfod for a traditional music performance. Patrick has studied at the University of Leeds, Janáčkova Akademie Múzických v Brně (Czech Republic) and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is also a composer and founding member of the chamber folk trio Vri, as well as the Welsh folk supergroup Pendevig, the latter also with Angharad
