John Kirkpatrick and Sue Harris were one of the most influential duos to emerge from the English folk revival of the 1970s. With Kirkpatrick’s driving melodeon and Harris’s expressive oboe and hammer dulcimer, they helped redefine what traditional instrumental music could be: bold, rhythmic, inventive and unapologetically contemporary, while remaining deeply rooted in English dance and song traditions. Their recordings and live performances inspired a generation of musicians and remain touchstones of the genre.
Now, after many years pursuing separate musical paths, Kirkpatrick and Harris are re-forming for a small number of special concerts to celebrate the release of a new CD. This long-awaited reunion revisits the musical chemistry that made their original partnership so compelling, while bringing the depth, nuance and maturity gained from decades of experience.
Audiences can expect exhilarating interplay, fresh arrangements and the unmistakable energy that marked their original work together. These concerts are not simply nostalgic recreations, but a vibrant continuation of a musical conversation that helped shape modern English folk music. For anyone with an interest in the roots and evolution of the tradition, this rare reunion is an unmissable event.
They will also be joind by son Benji Kirkpatrick who will be returning to Rhosygilwen.
