Molly – Rowan Sharples, was born in Pembrokeshire Wales in 2001. The outstanding beauty of this rugged landscape is an important part of her identity as a young musician.
Molly can’t remember a time when she wasn’t playing music. She began the harp when she was 4 years old and the violin when she was 5. Her musical ability has created conflict for her as in order to progress, her local music teachers recommended she study away from home. Over her childhood she has continued to make this difficult choice, choosing to leave her beloved Wales during the term time to study at a designated music school.
When she was 8 years old, Molly received a joint specialist scholarship from the government’s Music and Dance Scheme at Wells Cathedral School on both violin and harp. She currently studies the violin with Professor Berent Korfker (RCM) whilst attending at The Purcell School of Music in London under the same scholarship award scheme.
Molly has performed extensively in and out of school. Recently she gave two very successful solo, full length recitals in Wales accompanied by Rebecca Selley (RWCMD).
Other recent memorable concerts (2016-2017) included a shared gala recital (a recognition of Molly’s success as Dyfed Young Musician of the Year 2015) with the soloist Catrin Finch; and Mozart’s 3rd violin concerto and Beethoven’s Romance in F major with Teifi Chamber Orchestra at Rhosygilwen Concert Hall under the baton of Henry Ward.
In 2016 she was lucky enough to attend the International Summer Music Academy in the Lake District where she performed in six recitals during the music festival. Here she attended masterclasses with Levon Chilingirian OBE and Professor Garfield Jackson.
Over Christmas 2017 Molly was invited to attend a series of 6 private master classes with Shmuel Ashkenasi in New York.
Molly has been placed in, or won many competitions in England and in Europe. Locally, Molly (aged 13) was one of the youngest musicians to have won the President’s Shield and held the title of Young Musician of Dyfed.
Daniel King Smith has given concerts all over the world as both soloist and accompanist. He has been broadcast on both BBC TV/Radio in the UK (In Tune, Proms, Young Musician of the Year) and NHK TV/Radio in Japan, most recently in recital with Yuki Ito as part of NHK’s “Best of Classic” and “Classic Club” series. Daniel has recorded a number of CDs, including releases with Yuki Ito for Sony and with Anna Hashimoto on the Meridian label.
Accompaniment and chamber music are a major part of Daniel’s life, having held staff accompanist posts at both Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music Junior Departments and at the Purcell School. He regularly accompanies auditions, lessons, masterclasses and end of year recitals at the London conservatoires as well as being official accompanist for the Countess of Munster Trust. Daniel gives recitals every year with a number of people who have been accepted onto the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme as well as both the Tillett Trust and Making Music Recital Schemes. He is also official accompanist for the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists competition. Daniel is often resident pianist on summer music courses including the British Isles Music Festival and Musicale. He has given recitals with Michael Collins, Carmel Kaine, Susan Milan, Robert Max, Yuki Ito and Anna Hashimoto, amongst many others and is a member of the Ridgeway Ensemble.
