This concert of fairy tales and folk tunes will be part of our Family Day for all ages on the Bank Holiday Monday. The day will include sketching, drawing, painting and pottery demonstrations.
Quartet Draig met during their studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and have continued to play together ever since. During their time at RWCMD they were recipients of the Albion String Quartet and the Bridgewood & Neitzert prizes, and were also nominated to represent the college in the 2021 Cavatina Intercollegiate Competition at the Wigmore Hall. In Summer 2021 the quartet took up a place as the Young Quartet in Residence at the ESTA Summer School Conference, giving a recital and also performing alongside the Bingham String Quartet. The quartet are in the process of finalising details for a concert series in summer 2023 entitled ‘Welsh Fairy Tales and Folklore’. The project will include a new work by award-winning composer Mark David Boden, a rediscovered work by Welsh Romantic composer David Vaughan Thomas, as well as the quartet’s own collection of Welsh folk tunes, ‘Am Awen’.
